Nerosicilia at Milan Design Week 2026 with the 1669 Collection by BIG

On the occasion of Salone del Mobile.Milano 2026, Nerosicilia presents an installation dedicated to volcanic matter and its transformation into a design object. Inside Hall 24 | Stand D35, the 1669 collection designed by BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group becomes the centerpiece of a space conceived as a symbolic landscape suspended between architecture, nature and material experimentation.

Salone del Mobile 2026: BIG x Nerosicilia

The stand, designed by designer Leonardo Talarico, unfolds through an essential white cube where the white of the architecture contrasts with the deep black of lava stone. At the center of the space, a large circular void symbolically recalling a volcanic crater takes shape, composed of lava pebbles from which dining tables and coffee tables from the 1669 collection emerge.

Visitors are guided along a circular path designed to observe the furnishings from different perspectives and perceive the relationship between form, matter and space. A vertical totem featuring images of Mount Etna in activity reinforces the connection between the volcanic origin of the stone and the design process developed by BIG and Nerosicilia.

With the project presented at Salone del Mobile 2026, Nerosicilia develops a dialogue between contemporary design and volcanic matter through the 1669 collection designed by BIG.

1669: Lava Stone Tables Shaped by Heat

The 1669 collection is born from a shared research between BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group and Nerosicilia on the expressive potential of natural materials. The project takes its name from the 1669 eruption of Mount Etna, from which the lava stone used to create the tables originates.

Dining tables and coffee tables are created through a production process that exclusively exploits the physical properties of the material and the force of heat, without the use of glues, metals or binders. During the firing process, lava stone tends to return to a fluid state, generating organic forms and unrepeatable details that define the character of the collection.

A Space Dedicated to Material Research

Alongside the main installation, the stand hosts a material library that tells the evolution of the Nerosicilia group through different surfaces, textures and processes. In addition to Nerosicilia lava stone, the space also presents Pietra Pece from Ragusa and Mosaicomicro recycled mosaic surfaces, expanding the dialogue between natural materials, contemporary research and artisanal experimentation.

The space also includes the new acquisitions Domenico Mori and Marmi Santa Caterina, creating a material narrative that brings together lava stone, ceramics, terracotta, mosaic and natural marble.

Along the perimeter walls, a continuous band of material surfaces creates a visual narrative made of colors, textures and finishes that synthesize the company’s contemporary research on design and materials.
