At Milan Design Week 2022, Nerosicilia Group presented an innovative journey through material pluralities, showcasing the diverse offerings of its four brands, from the lava stone to pitchstone, to recycled glass, to porcelain stoneware.
For over a decade, this dynamic entrepreneurial venture has embraced continuous creative and production challenges, offering the world of architecture and living spaces fresh interpretations in the realm of coverings. These materials are industrially processed using the most advanced technologies, yet crafted with artisanal skill and dedication, all while maintaining a strict commitment to environmental sustainability.
At the Salone del Mobile, in the S.Project pavilion, the Nerosicilia Group’s story is brought to life through an original installation designed by Leonardo Talarico, an under-35 designer already well-known and respected in the international design world.
Eight columns, each standing three meters high with sides measuring eighty centimeters, rise before the visitor like imposing monoliths. These structures present a harmonious plurality of colors, achieved through the fusion of multiple layers of material.
Five of them describe the various outcomes achieved by Nerosicila: slabs of lava stone from Etna, crafted through special production processes, presented here in new and highly sought-after color shades.
Two other columns unfold the expressive language of Pietrapece the exclusive calcarenite extracted from the only existing quarry in Ragusa. In addition to quotations from the collections created in collaboration with designers of the calibre of Rodolfo Dordoni, Piero Lissoni, and Jpeglab, a brand new variety of stone in an unusually lighter shade evoking the color of Sicilian sandy shores stands out.
The last column highlights the achievements of +nero, the new brand created to design large technical surfaces, capable of reproducing the poetry and expressive power of lava stone, using more contemporary materials, even with the addition of unusual textures and patterns. Of particular note is the unusual decoration with a pinstripe effect on a white background.
Concluding the exhibition narrative is a twenty-metre long floor behind the colonnade, dedicated to Mosaicomicro the brand that has succeeded in giving new life to waste TV and PC monitors, transforming them into micro mosaic pieces. The latest project Micro Circle, i.e. small, aligned circles that make up a play of full and empty, optical effect.
