Konstantin Grcic visits Nerosicilia: in search for the perfect stone

In the heart of Sicily, we had the pleasure of welcoming Konstantin Grcic to our Nerosicilia facility to bring to life a project as ambitious as it is symbolic: the creation of 16 lava stone bases for the chair\_ONE / Anniversary Edition.

During his visit, Grcic personally explored the stone blocks, closely examining the material and formal characteristics of the lava stone. Every vein, fracture and irregularity was carefully analyzed, as each base needed to be unique, alive, capable of telling a story. Together, we selected the blocks that best expressed the strength and beauty of this volcanic material, with an eye toward both aesthetics and structural integrity.

Several cutting and positioning tests followed, with the goal of finding a balance between the block’s natural form and the technical requirements of the seat. The dialogue between the designer and our technical team was intense and inspiring—a true meeting of design vision and material expertise.

The result is irregular, textured, sculptural and unique bases that stand in stark contrast to the geometric perfection of the chair_ONE's die-cast aluminium shell. A fusion of nature and ingenuity, of chance and design.

Grcic’s visit to Sicily was a significant moment for Nerosicilia: an opportunity to engage with a leading figure in international design and the chance to place our stone—quite literally—at the heart of an icon.
