ECOMOSAIC
Mosaicomicro is both a brand and a product, developed by Frama Mosaici around a material and an idea: transforming waste technological glass into tiny mosaic tesserae. The result is a tactile surface with deep, rich colors, "designed" by the texture of the joints. This concept is exemplified by the successful Micro Multiplem collection by the Sicilian duo jpeglab (Massimo Barbini and Giovanni Salerno), the creative force behind both the Mosaicomicro brand and Nerosicilia. The design is based on breaking down the square geometric figure into smaller primary shapes, such as triangles and trapezoids, which form almost architectural structures. The iridescent surface and hand-engraved patterns enhance the visual and tactile experience. Initially offered in three colors (graphite, ash, and talc), the collection—awarded with an honorable mention at the XXV Compasso d'Oro—has expanded to include additional monochromes and delicate blends. All pieces are produced through an exclusive mass-production process, from glass grinding to mixing with water, shaping, firing, and robotic assembly. "The added value is the processing in Sicily," explains Biagio Amarù, CEO of Mosaicomicro: "It is a zero-kilometer project, as we use glass from computer monitors and televisions sourced from a disposal consortium in Syracuse, creating a virtuous circle."
