Interni Magazine Features 1669, the Lava Stone Table Collection by BIG x Nerosicilia

The 1669 collection, designed by BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group for Nerosicilia, was featured in Interni Magazine in issue 03/2026 dedicated to contemporary design and project culture.

The article presents 1669 as a lava stone table collection capable of transforming volcanic matter into a sculptural and architectural presence. Through an experimental approach, the project explores the relationship between heat, gravity and transformation, allowing the material itself to define form and surface.

The publication highlights one of the central aspects of the collection: the table top is fused directly with the base, creating a single material element without screws, joints or additional components. A process that exclusively enhances the physical properties of lava stone and the force of heat.

As stated by Jakob Lange of BIG in the pages of Interni Magazine:

“The slight curve on the surface marks the point where the table top is fused directly with the base. A single material, no screws or joints. Only lava.”

1669 is born from the collaboration between BIG and Nerosicilia and takes its name from the 1669 eruption of Mount Etna, from which the lava stone used to create the collection originates. Dining tables and coffee tables are transformed through a production process that recreates the conditions of a volcanic environment, allowing the material to return to a fluid state and take on organic and unrepeatable forms.

The presence of the collection in the pages of Interni Magazine represents an important recognition for the project and for the material research developed by Nerosicilia together with BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group.

The publication in Interni Magazine confirms the international interest in the material research developed by Nerosicilia together with BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group. The 1669 collection thus becomes part of one of the leading editorial references in contemporary design, dedicated to projects that explore the relationship between architecture, matter and experimentation.
