The 1669 collection, designed by BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group for Nerosicilia, was featured in IFDM within the Design Issue Vol. XX – April 2026.
IFDM 1669 and BIG x Nerosicilia
Within the “Moodboard” section, IFDM presents 1669 as a collection of lava stone dining tables and coffee tables born from the collaboration between Nerosicilia and BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group.
The publication highlights the essential and sculptural character of the collection, focusing on the relationship between geometry, volcanic matter and natural transformation. The project takes its name from the 1669 eruption of Mount Etna, from which the lava stone used to create the tables originates.
1669 is born from a shared research on the expressive potential of natural materials and the possibility of allowing the material itself to guide form and surface. Through heat and an experimental production process, lava stone tends to return to a fluid state, generating organic movements and unrepeatable details.
The publication in IFDM Magazine represents a further recognition of the research path developed by Nerosicilia together with BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group. Through 1669, the project explores new expressive possibilities of lava stone, transforming volcanic matter into an essential and contemporary architectural presence. The presence of the collection within the 2026 Design Issue confirms the international interest in a design approach that combines experimentation, craftsmanship and material culture.
