1669 — Lava Stone Tables
1669 is a collection of lava stone tables born from the collaboration between Nerosicilia and BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group. The project explores the relationship between matter, heat and transformation, giving life to dining tables and coffee tables with a strong sculptural presence.
Lava Stone Tables Born from Fire
The 1669 collection takes its name from the 1669 eruption of Mount Etna, from which the lava stone used to create the tables originates. Each piece is born from a production process that enhances the physical properties of the material through the sole use of heat, without the use of glues, metals or binders.
Inside a kiln designed to simulate the conditions of a volcanic environment, the stone is exposed to extreme temperatures that transform its structure, density and behavior.
During this process, the material tends to return to a fluid state, losing its original geometries and taking on soft and unpredictable forms. The design of the 1669 collection emerges from this transformation.
The top is fused directly over a hollow lava stone cylinder that acts as a structural support. During the firing process, the surface softens and follows the underlying shape, creating organic movements and ever-changing details.

Between Art, Design and Nature: 1669 is a project that celebrates lava stone in its most authentic state, transformed solely by heat and time. The project was developed in collaboration with the international studio BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group.
Inside a kiln specifically designed to recreate, in a controlled way, the typical conditions of a volcanic environment, heat penetrates deep into the material, transforming its structure, density and chromatic qualities.
Dining tables and coffee tables with a sculptural character
The collection includes lava stone dining tables and coffee tables developed in circular, square and rectangular shapes, offering different interpretations of volcanic matter.
Each table is born from an unrepeatable transformation generated by heat and the fusion of stone. Surface and material variations make every piece unique.
The central cylinder is internally lightened through a coring process. The removed material is later reused as a support during the fusion of the top, fully enhancing the value of the lava stone.

1669 is born from the meeting of design research, technical experimentation and material culture. Through the collaboration with BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group, Nerosicilia has developed a collection that combines contemporary design and geological memory.
1669 transforms lava stone into a sculptural and architectural presence, preserving the original energy of the volcanic material.
